The Royal Library of Belgium is the national scientific library of the federal state of Belgium. It preserves an important cultural heritage. It acquires, manages and provides access to publications published in the territory of Belgium as well as those by Belgian authors who publish abroad. In collaboration with other scientific libraries in Belgium it performs essential functions for the provision of scientific information. It focuses on the information needs of the research community both on the basis of its own collection and on the basis of externally stored information. In the library cooperation within Belgium and internationally, the library is represented in organisations and activities relevant to its operation in general and in specific areas.
